Umea University
Umea University (UmU) is located in the north of Sweden. With almost 30,000 students, 1800 teachers and researchers, and 2400 other employees, UmU is a large university according to Swedish standards. Teaching and research is conducted in most fields, organised through some 100 departments and centres in the faculties of Arts, Medicine, Social Sciences, Science & Technology and Teachers Education. There are seven university colleges and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences located at the same campus. Geographically, UmU holds courses at 25 other cities and locations in the north of Sweden.
UmU has a very active international presence at all levels in such programmes as Socrates/Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Tempus and other. The Office for External Relations of UmU may serve as a model for structural changes to be undertaken in the Partner University during the Project. It intermediates cooperation between university, industry and society while supporting cooperation with external stakeholders (enterprises, organizations and individuals). It has following divisions: Research Liaison, Education, Students-Companies Relations, Communication. These divisions identify and bring together partners from the UmU and from SME regionally, nationally and internationally. Also they develop relations with alumni and offer courses, including training courses for industry, development courses for local authorities, further education for teachers and courses for other organizations.
